Singapore’s got something special: a national cocktail as iconic as its spirit! On this day in 1965, the nation gained independence from Malaysia—and the Singapore Sling remains a star, served in bars citywide.
National Day here means big parades, flypasts, and fireworks, with red-and-white-clad crowds. But if parades aren’t your vibe? Savor a Sling, crafted since 1915 by Hainanese bartender Ngiam Tong Boon.
Recipe:
45ml Gibson’s London Dry Gin
15ml Heering Cherry Liqueur
7.5ml Bénédictine D.O.M.
7.5ml Giffard Triple Sec
45ml Pineapple Juice
15ml Lime Juice
2.5ml Giffard Grenadine
1 dash Australian Bitters Aromatic
Shake all with ice, strain into a chilled sling glass, garnish with pineapple + cherry. Cheers to Singapore!
